Availability | The Roving Umpire Knowledge Check is available to Officials at the end of the certification cycle, which ends on October 31st.
It will remain available until November 1st. Outside of that time frame, it’s only available by assignment within the recertification curriculum, intended for Officials who did not meet the requirements to maintain certification by the deadline (October 31st). This means that if the user did not complete the Knowledge Check by the deadline, they would need to complete it now as part of the recertification assignment. Should the user need information on recertification, please refer to the Recertification Inquiry SR. Should a user be assigned the 2025 - 2026 Recertification: Roving Umpire Knowledge Check curriculum, they can access it by navigating to their transcript and clicking ‘Open Curriculum’.
|
Completion | Users need to achieve a score of 75% or higher to pass the Roving Umpire Knowledge Check.
If the user states that they passed, but the course isn't showing as completed, proceed with troubleshooting the issue. If the issue persists after troubleshooting, please escalate to the Administrators. Screenshots are most helpful. |
IMPORTANT!
- Users with USTA Leadership Lab accounts that are also officials won’t see the Roving Umpire Knowledge Check option in their hamburger menu. Please advise them to use the search function as they should be able to locate it that way, as long as they’re Officials.
- Continual Learning Credit is not provided for the Roving Umpire Knowledge Check.
- Should a user state they passed the Knowledge Check but don't see it in OfficialsFirst, please check the user’s transcript to see the completion date, as it takes 24 - 48 hours for the data to transfer from the USTA Officiating Development Hub to OfficialsFirst. If it has been more than 48 hours, please advise the user to reach out to the Officiating Team directly by emailing Officiating@USTA.com for further assistance.

WHAT SHOULD YOU KNOW?
When assisting the user with the Roving Umpire Knowledge Check, keep in mind the following:
- The Knowledge Check consists of 12 randomly generated questions (out of 36), and the answers are randomly reordered with each attempt.
- Although the Knowledge Check is not timed, the USTA Officiating Development Hub may time out if there’s inactivity for an extended period. If this happens, it is considered an attempt at the Roving Umpire Knowledge Check.
- At the end of the test, users can click the ‘Review Answers’ button at the bottom of the page. This will take them to a screen indicating whether every question has been answered. If they need to make changes, they can click the ‘Go to Section’ link at the top of the screen. When ready, they can submit their test by clicking the ‘Submit Final Answers’ button at the bottom, which will then grade their test.
- Users must score a 75% (get 9 questions correct) to pass.
- Users will have three attempts to get a passing score. Should they fail all 3 attempts, they will get an error message, and we will need to advise them to contact the Officiating Team (officiating@usta.com) before they're able to retake the test.
